Privacy Policy

As an avid Internet user, I expect the sites I use or visit to treat my personal information with a high degree of confidentiality - and as a developer, I generally try to return the favor, except in cases in which such respect is manifestly undue to a certain user. That said, here's a bit more specific information:

For General Visitors

The interfaces on this site that are intended for general visitors (those with a blue color scheme) do not require you to submit any personal information, and no personal information is collected covertly, with the exception of that which is passed in your HTTP headers (your remote IP address and host name, if given). Even this data is stored only in the access logs and server statistics, which are not available to the general public. You also have the option of providing your e-mail address when you send me a message, but this is at your own discretion.

This information is available only to the site operator (me) and a few other developers whom I trust with administrative access to the site. Unless you misbehave, I see no reason that I should make any of this information available to anyone else.

For Those Who Create Accounts

If you create an account on this system and access any of the interfaces meant for account holders (those with a red color scheme), some personal information is collected, above and beyond that which is collected from general visitors: you are required to provide a name and a valid e-mail address. All other information is entirely optional, and I provide you with administrative tools that enable you to maintain (or delete) this information as well as controlling how much of it you make available to those who view your profile.

Again, this information is available only to the site operator (me) and a few other developers whom I trust with administrative access to the site. Unless you misbehave, I see no reason that I should make any of this information available to anyone else.

For Those Who Misbehave

I have extremely little tolerance for those who misbehave, whether this misbehavior is criminal in nature (attempting to hack into any part of this system) or merely impolite (sending insulting or threatening messages to myself or any of my users/visitors). For those who insist on misbehaving, the gloves come off. Any information you have submitted, and any information I am able to collect or research, may be used in ways you won't like.

Stuff That's Beyond My Control

While I'll do my best to maintain your confidentiality, there are always a number of things that are out of my control. I'll to comply with any judicial order. I have to rely on the honesty of my hosting provider and its employees. Software failures or programming errors may result in the unintentional disclosure of information. I'll do the best I can to keep on top of things, but there will always be a potential for a problem that is beyond my ability to prevent.
